How the theory test works:
The theory test is a 50 question multiple choice test. To pass you must answer 43 questions correctly within 57 minutes. Questions are chosen at random from a bank of 1,000 questions, and you answer by touching the screen. During the test you have the option to skip questions and return to them later. Once you have passed your theory test, it will last you 2 years. By then you should have passed your practical test. If not you will have to resift and pass your theory test.

Then comes the practical test.

To book your practical driving test online, clickwww.direct.gov.uk or phone 0300 2001 122.
In your practical test you will have between 35 to 40 minutes to demonstrate everything you have learned in your driving lessons with BJM. You need to show you can drive competently and safely on all kinds of driving situations. You will be asked to do two of the three reversing manoeuvres you have practised with BJM and possibly an emergency stop. You will also have to answer two or three vehicle safety check questions: One 'show me' and one 'tell me'. To pass you will have to complete the test with no serious or dangerous faults, and you must have 15 or fewer minor errors.

Be prepared. The current national average practical pass rate is 43%, so it makes sense to be as prepared as possible. The BJM (Yorkshire) expected pass rate is currently greater than 70%. BJM School of Motoring (Yorkshire) will advise you when you are ready for the practical test and help you understand the main reasons why some pupils fail. If you fail your practical test but pass your theory test, you only need to sit the practical test again.

Independent Driving

The independent drive part of the test lasts about 10 minutes. The candidate will be asked to do ONE of the following

A.. Drive to a destination following traffic signs.
B.. Drive following a series of verbal directions - Diagrams will be shown to candidates given verbal directions.
C.. Drive using a combination of both of the above methods.

The diagrams may show a simple route path such as, Follow to a road end and turn right - at the next road end turn left- at the roundabout turn right. During the Independent drive the candidate must still drive correctly as per the rest of the driving test including using correct observations, using mirrors correctly, obeying speed limits, road markings and signs etc etc, but completely independently, unaided and unprompted. If the Pupil has gone the wrong way DONT PANIC...you will not fail your test or be faulted providing your driving has been correct & safe.
